How to prepare some of the world’s best brews!

Sello Rojo’s blends are 100% Authentic Latin American Coffee, but our Colombian roots inspire everything we do! Here are a few ways Colombians brew their coffee, some unique tools used to prepare food, and delicious treats to pair with your Sello Rojo brews.

Learn how to brew like Colombians do with the brewing method below. Using a Colador Y Olleta is the best way to brew drip coffee!

Colador: a bowl shaped wire strainer attached to filter cloth.

Olleta: a metal pitcher, traditionally iron, but also aluminum and stainless steel. 

Brewing using these tools is simple, here are some tips to get started:

•  Boil a pot of water, put your coffee grounds into the colador and hold it above the olleta, and pour the hot water through the strainer. 
• Boil your coffee grounds in a pot of water, wait until the grounds have sunk to the bottom of the pot, and then pour the mixture through the colador. 
• To switch it up, boil your water with sugar, or add cinnamon and ginger into the mix to provide some additional flavor.

1. Polvorosas: These easy to make sugar cookies are popular throughout South America, especially in Colombia! Sweet, delicate, and ready to dissolve in your mouth, they make a wonderful companion to any Sello Rojo Blends.
2. Buñuelos: A popular christmas treat ideal for breakfast, and perfect to pair with any cup of Joe, Buñuelos are small doughy pastries made of yuca flour, cheese and cornstarch, these soft, salty and cheesy pastries are quickly made and are eaten even faster! 
3. Arepas: A staple in Colombia, and its neighbors Venezuela, Bolivia, and Panama, Arepas are made thin cakes of cornmeal, or ground maize, and often filled with cheese, though you can switch up the filling to your liking. A hearty addition to coffee in the morning, they are the perfect assist to get you where you’re going.
